Spoonface Steinberg is eight years old and loves opera. She wishes she could be like one of those singers who sing like birds and die so exquisitely. She wants to sing about what it’s like to have death ticking away in her body. She wants to sing death and beauty and – this is very important – to get that little morsel of beauty that resides in music.

SPOONFACE STEINBERG was originally written for radio by Lee Hall, known as the author of the script for the film Billy Elliot. It was highly acclaimed (BBC Radio 4 lists it as one of its best programmes of the 1990s) and was adapted for the stage. It is a drama about a prosaic and clear-sighted girl who formulates her own, highly personal, version of the meaning of life.
At the Jewish Theatre the play was directed by Pia Forsgren, with Sylvia Rauan in the lead part.

The performance was aimed at an adult audience.

SPOONFACE STEINBERG attained an honorary mention in AFFE – theatrical poster of the year 2003.
